Strange & Simple Beauty: Simultaneous Works from Life

Married Artists Provide Parallel Perspectives

Art Access Gallery is pleased to present Strange & Simple Beauty: Simultaneous Works from Life by Salt Lake husband and wife artists Brad Slaugh and Tracy Strauss. Their exhibit of oil paintings and pastels will hang from April 21 through May 10, with the reception for the artists taking place on Friday, April 21 from 6 to 9 PM during the Salt Lake Gallery Association¹s monthly Gallery Stroll.

The artwork to be shown is the result of two artists working in tandem from the same setups over the last year and more. Brad Slaugh and Tracy Strauss have chosen to paint convergent views of people over multiple painting sessions in compact stage situations that they have set up in each of their studios.

Slaugh says, "This work is about a human being surrounded by light, color and pattern, but even more about ways of seeing and interpreting all this rich stimuli."

Strauss adds, "Working independently, but critiquing collaboratively, we share central ideas about drawing and painting as well as create an ongoing visual dialogue with each other. Our approaches to creating the paintings are quite different in many important ways. We hope that putting our paintings of the same motif up next to each other will not just highlight these differences but also give the viewer a greater feeling of being inthis space and quietly painting a work that is as singular as it is simple and perhaps a bit strange, as beauty often is."
