Art Access Presents Black and White Color by Wynter Jones

Art Access Gallery is pleased to feature the oil paintings of Salt Lake artist Wynter Jones from July 20 through August 10. The Artist's Reception for Black and White Color will take place on Friday, July 20 from 6 to 9 pm, during the Salt Lake Gallery Association¹s monthly Gallery Stroll.

Wynter Jones's current work visually references fossils and humans, particularly the slight and repetitious variances shared by each organism. She says, "I seek to visually glorify the complex subtleties amongst the overwhelming similarities. Using oil on canvas to exemplify my obsessions, I impose these structures onto overworked, spastic surfaces and seek to entertain myself in the process of doing so."

The artist graduated in 2004 from the University of Utah with a BFA. As a senior, she received the prestigious Howard Clark Scholarship. Jones has shown at the Unknown Gallery and Kayo Gallery in addition to other venues in the Salt Lake City area.

Salt Lake Artist Writes and Illustrates Hidden Treasures, A Children's Book

Art Access II Gallery is excited to show thirteen colorful oil paintings by artist JoNell Evans, representing the pages of her unpublished children's book Hidden Treasures. Painted text will also be part of the show. This exhibit will be up July 20 through August 10. The Artist's Reception will take place on Friday, July 20 from 6 to 9 PM, during the Salt Lake Gallery Association¹s July Gallery Stroll.

Evans, who has poignant memories of visiting Native American sites and ruins in the Western desert, as a child, has written a delightful story based loosely on the National Parks motto, "Take only pictures, leave only footprints."

Hidden Treasures is the story of Sam, an adventurous six year old, who discovers a treasure among the ruins of the Southwest desert and wants it for herself. This is the story of a moral dilemma. What will Sam do? What would you or I do?

The artist says, "Amazingly, as I talk about this project, people tell me about hidden treasures that they have in their possession. They are uncomfortable having arrowheads or pottery in their homes, but don¹t know what to do with them. Artifacts provide invaluable clues to understanding our history if they are left in place: once removed, they lose historical significance."

Annie Sager, from the Utah Museum of National History, will provide a related talk at Art Access Gallery on Saturday, July 28 at 10 AM. "Protecting our Cultural Artifacts" is free to the public.

JoNell Evans, who is searching for a publisher for Hidden Treasures, has participated in many exhibits in the Salt Lake area. Shows have included: the Utah Arts Council Statewide Exhibit in 2005; the American Association of University Women Exhibit in 2004; and Body Politics: An Artist's Journey Through a Patriarchal Society at Art Access in 2004
