Access II Gallery
Colored Pencil Artist Treats Her Drawings As Oil Paintings

Art Access II Gallery is pleased to present new works of colored pencil artist Holly Williams. The artist¹s exhibit will hang from November 16 through December 19, 2007. The reception will open on Friday, November 16during the Salt Lake Gallery Association¹s November Gallery Stroll from 6 to 9 PM.
An additional reception for Holly¹s work will be held on Friday, December 7 from 6 to 9 PM during the Salt Lake Gallery Association¹s Annual Holiday Stroll.
Williams will show approximately 12 colored pencil drawings of fruit, flowers, vegetables and other growing things in interesting combinations and containers. She enjoys brilliant colors and the play of light upon them.
The artist says, "I find that I can reproduce the luster and texture of my subject matter best with colored pencil, even though it is agonizingly slow."
When Williams uses colored pencils, she doesn¹t think of it as drawing, but as painting. She explains, "I layer the colors, as is done with oil painting, so that the objects have depth, intensity and dimension. I love to produce the silken look of tulip petals, the softness and the richness of velvet or the hard shine of metal."
Holly Williams earned a BFA from the University of Utah in Ballet Performance. While performing with ballet companies in Michigan, Ohio, Oregon and South Carolina, she began to develop a portfolio of her art. She chose to concentrate on color pencil because the materials were easy to carry about and she was able to draw while she waited to perform on stage.
Regular gallery hours are Monday Friday, 10 AM to 6 PM. From November 16 December 19, the gallery will keep special Saturday hours from 11 AM to 3 PM.
