Silence & Spirit: David Meikle and John Berry
|
|
|
Art Access Gallery is pleased to host two of Utah¹s foremost landscape artists, David Meikle and John Berry, with their depictions of the Western landscape. Both have spent many years refining their own unique visions of the land.
Silence & Spirit will hang from September 21 through October 12. The Artists' Reception will be held on Friday, September 21 from 6 to 9 PM, during the Salt Lake Gallery Association¹s monthly Gallery Stroll.
Silence & Spirit refers to the artists¹ statement for the exhibition:
"Since his genesis upon the earth, man has either acted upon the land or left the land alone to act on its own. Both actions speak volumes; both actions reveal the paradoxes in man's spirit as well as the land's silent adaptive capacities. Hence, whether modified or untouched, our environment impacts us all. We cannot separate ourselves from the land. The spirit of man can be noble, though not always wise. As man works to create a functional surrounding, the end result may be beautiful, or, simply adequate.
Collectively, such outcomes reveal the contradictions encased within the spirit of man. The land also works to create a living space. Left to its own devices, it may use its versatile powers to create a view that is dramatic or subtle, though always silent. "
For this exhibit, Meikle has focused on land that has been touched in some way by mankind. Berry¹s focus is land untouched by human presence.

Children with Disabilities Create Mobility Mobiles Under the Guidance of Lenka Konopasek and Cordell Taylor
Art Access II Gallery is pleased to host Mobility, an exhibit of interactive mobiles, created under the guidance of artists in residence Lenka Konopasek and Cordell Taylor. This exhibit will hang from September 21 through October 12. The Opening Reception will take place on Friday, September 21 from 6 to 9 PM, during the Salt Lake Gallery Association¹s monthly gallery stroll.
Kindred Spirits, a non-profit organization serving young children with severe disabilities and their families, has developed this collection of whimsical figures that move through space. The installation of several mobiles grouped together demonstrates through reaction and counter-reaction, how important an individual is to a community.
The following young artists worked with their parents and siblings on designing and constructing the mobiles: Jacob Alder, Clara Alder, Masha Fllinn, Gabriel Grutter, Leah Grutter, Ian Harr, Detlef Steed, Julius Steubing, Adam Persels, Sam Weyrich, and CelinaWollsieffer.
