Worlds in a Box

Worlds in a Box, featuring the box art of six Utah artists, will open at Art Access Gallery on Friday, October 17 from 6 to 9 PM with a public reception during the October Gallery Stroll. This exhibit will hang from October 17 through November 14.
The participating arts are Marina Alexandrescu, Jim Frazer, Frank McEntire, Marcee Blackerby, Wayne Kimball and Mark England.
According to Worlds in a Box curator, Jacqui Biggs Larsen, "I chose these six artists for their diversity of expression and the fact that many of them are best known for other forms of art, was intriguing to me."
Wayne Kimball, for instance, is one of Utah¹s premier printmakers. Mark England is best known for his paintings of futuristic map-like landscapes. Frank McEntire has long made use of society¹s detritus for his commentaries on religion and the psyche and Marina Alexandrescu usually creates complicated drawings on paper which include human hair and fine stitchery. Jim Frazer is interested in the presence of science and technology in his boxes and mixes the factual with the fictional for his ³Curiosity Boxes. Marcee Blackerby combs garage sales and eBay for the treasures used in her other-worldish boxes.

Art Access II Gallery
Brian & Joe Still Together After All These Years |
|
Art Access II Gallery is pleased to once again present the collaborative art of Brian Kershisnik and Joe Adams in Brian & Joe Unframed. This exhibit will hang from October 17 through November 14. The Artists¹ Reception will take place on Friday, October 17, 6 to 9 PM, during Salt Lake City¹s monthly Gallery Stroll.
This particular show marks a twelve-year anniversary. It was in 1996 that Brian & Joe had their first two-person exhibit at Art Access Gallery. They started working collaboratively on art in Kershisnik¹'s studio in rural Kanosh in 1995. Kershisnik, charmed by the results of his experience with Adams, searched for a venue to show the unique collaborative work and approached Art Access. Art Access Gallery made a commitment to show new Brian & Joe work every two years. This year, the artwork will be presented unframed, in order to make their work more affordable.
A high point in their collaboration was being officially tapped to be part of the Cultural Olympiad during the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. Thousands of visitors viewed their art and appreciated the message of inclusion. Art Access Gallery shipped their art to many places throughout the United States, including Chicago, Washington, D.C. and San Francisco. In addition, Salt Lake County purchased a Brian & Joe work to add to the County Collection.
Kershisnik is a professional artist whose reputation keeps growing nationally. In Utah, he shows his art at Dave Ericson Fine Art in Salt Lake City and at Myer Gallery in Park City. Adamson, his neighbor and friend, has Down syndrome. The art of these artists is unique, in that it is whimsical, child-like and sophisticated at the same time. Each of these artists brings something to the collaboration that the other does not have and will never have. It takes the contributions of both artists to make this charming art, which values each artist for whom they are.
Brian & Joe art always deals with subject matter which is currently important to Adams. Subjects this year include Cagney & Lacey and Carol Mikita.
