Apply to Art Access Gallery

Art Access Gallery serves as an access point through which emerging artists, artists with disabilities, and others with limited access to the arts can enter and thrive in the local arts community. They do so by exhibiting their artwork with that of more-established Utah artists and by taking part in professional development activities. In doing so, Art Access Gallery celebrates and cultivates the talents of diverse artists while educating the community to understand the artistic skills of Utahns of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. Each year Art Access curates exhibits from emerging and established artists.

Essential Gallery Proposal Guidelines

Mission Statement

Art Access works to build a diverse and inclusive arts community in Utah by providing creative opportunities to people with disabilities and other marginalized communities and through public engagement in the arts.

We believe in the vital importance of access to the arts. Art Access galleries display stimulating exhibitions in an inclusive and cost-free setting by artists from all backgrounds and with all points-of-view. Art Access has two galleries available for exhibits: the main Art Access Gallery for larger exhibitions; and Access II Gallery, a smaller display space.

Wondering if you should show with us? While we accept proposals and shows from all Utah artists, we prioritize showing emerging artists, artists from historically excluded or underrepresented identities, and artists with disabilities. We also choose shows that engage our community in conversation, push the artist to try new things, and revolve around a strong theme.

Proposal Requirements and Application

The online application process will open on May 3rd, 2019 and close June 30, 2019, at midnight. Separate forms will be available for group and individual exhibits. Accepted exhibits will be scheduled for the calendar year 2020. All applications should be submitted online through the You Judge It platform.

A helpful, short video to assist you with the online application process may be found HERE. Applications are due by JUNE 30TH.

Applicants who need help with the online application process due to lack of internet access, technological barriers, or another accessibility issue, should contact Art Access by May 15, 2018, with a request for assistance.

Art Access accepts exhibits that have a strong theme and a cohesive presentation (rather than a collection of the artist’s work). We are particularly interested in topics that address our commitment to telling the stories of all of us, especially those from disenfranchised populations. For an example of past accepted exhibits, please visit the Past Exhibits tab on our website tab HERE.

A free application workshop will be held at Art Access on Wednesday, May 22nd, 2019 from 6:00 – 7:30 PM. The workshop is not required but highly recommended for first-time applicants. To RSVP for the workshop please email

Exhibition Selection

The Art Access gallery committee will meet in late July to select exhibitions for the 2020 calendar year. Quality of work, the balance of mediums submitted for the year, and strength and clarity of the proposal will all be considered. Notification of acceptance will be made by mid-August. Artists are typically not selected for exhibition two years in a row unless one of those exhibits was a group exhibit.

For work sold in our galleries, Art Access takes a 35% commission. Exhibition work does not have to be for sale. Art Access is a member of the Salt Lake Gallery Association and participates in the Salt Lake Gallery Strolls, held the third Friday of each month, as well as having regular weekday hours for display and sales. Additionally, the gallery is available by appointment. Appointments can be made over the phone at 801-328-0703, or via email to .
