Utah's March For Our Lives raises money, remembers victims and rallies for the cause at Gun Reform Gala

Through a silent auction and ticket sales, Utah's March for Our Lives exceeded its goal and raised more than $4,500. Art Access, a Salt Lake City nonprofit group that wants to build an inclusive arts community through “creative opportunities” for people who are disabled or otherwise marginalized in society, will get 10% of the proceeds. The rest will go toward funding the March For Our Lives Utah chapter, covering trainings, transportation and clerical costs, like maintaining its P.O. Box and website.

March For Our Lives decided to partner with Art Access after booking an inaccessible space for their event. They issued this statement in response:

"We recognize that nothing can truly make up for the lack of accessibility we have allowed at our event. However, we are planning to take a couple steps to make amends, and we are grateful that local organization Art Access has agreed to work with us and help us educate each other and our community moving forward.

March For Our Lives Utah will be donating 10% of all proceeds from the night of the gala Art Access, a one of a kind nonprofit gallery and arts organization. Their mission is to "build an inclusive and diverse arts community in Utah through creative opportunities for people with disabilities and other marginalized communities, and through public engagement in the arts."

Beyond that, they work to make our broader community more accessible through their "Breaking Barriers" program, where they provide education and outreach to help organizations take action to understand and improve access for disabled people.

We are planning not just to donate, but also to schedule a training with Art Access on understanding and improving accessibility. This training will be hosted by March For Our Lives Utah and Art Access, and will be open to the public. "
